As part of the Green Africa Youth Organization’s aim to expand across other African countries, we have established the GAYO in Uganda office to advance the mission of researching to provide solutions to pressing environmental issues through youth empowerment and public education. “The primary responsibility of this role is to support program implementation in Uganda, coordinate the GAYO Eco Clubs and support project officers to deliver project goals. Uganda, similar to other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, faces the impacts of climate change, notwithstanding, youth are progressively demonstrating their leadership in tackling the climate crisis however, often lack the resources, guidance, and platforms to amplify their efforts effectively.” It’s on this note that GAYO seeks to bring on board an intern to Support Programs. Hé or she would report directly to the Climate Officer.
GAYO is inspired by the potential of this position to advance GAYO’s mission in Uganda. By providing support, guidance, and resources to young activists, this role not only contributes to the success of environmental projects but also empowers the next generation of climate leaders, helping them make a significant and lasting impact in the fight against climate change.
Position Roles and Responsibilities.
Eco-Club Management
1. Develop relevant linkages and build collaborations with key stakeholders to promote the growth of the Eco-clubs.
2. Work with the Club Manager to identify students’ needs and strengthen the campus clubs’ movement.
Organizing training and capacity-building workshops for the club members.
4. Write proposals and communicate materials for the club
5. Establish strategic partnerships to enhance club engagement
6. Work with the Club Manager to identify suitable project partners and sponsors for the club activities.
7. Defining a centralized activity for the clubs and planning its implementation
8. Work directly with the GAYO team and more closely with the Climate Officer to co-develop programming activities, events and engagements for the GAYO Eco=club Chapter
Programs support
1. Supporting programs, projects and activities of GAYO/ YCC in Uganda
2. Organize, coordinate and support periodic events e.g., brand audit/clean-up exercises, waste audit etc.
3. Procurement and organizing of all required logistics for GAYO projects and Activities.
4. Any other responsibilities that may be assigned.
Monitoring and support:
1. Creating and supporting feedback channels for club growth and assessment.
2. Develop a full report on all Eco-club activities/ weekly/ monthly/ quarterly/ yearly.
3. Organizing/facilitating leader’s meetings and relevant evaluation criteria
Qualifications: A University student or a recent graduate of less than a year with a background in environmental science or related field/ A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Required skills
The ideal candidate is someone who has the following qualities;
1. Effective project management skills including planning, organizing, and multitasking, data collection and analysis of data, and M& E on activities to ensure they meet their objectives.

Outputs/deliverables
1. A documented list of key stakeholders contacted and collaborations established for club growth.
2. A report highlighting students’ needs and recommendations for strengthening campus club movements.
3. Organized workshops with documented training materials and attendance records for club members.
4. Developed proposals and communication materials (e.g., brochures, flyers) for promoting the club.
5. A list of strategic partnerships established to enhance club engagement and their terms of collaboration.
6. A centralized activity plan for the clubs, including details of the planned implementation, timelines, and resource requirements.
7. Documentation of the support provided for various GAYO programs, projects, and activities, including the nature of assistance rendered.
8. Organized events such as brand audits, clean-up exercises, waste audits, etc., including event plans, logistics arrangements, and post-event reports.
9. Procurement and Logistics
10. Establishment of feedback channels for club growth and assessment, which may include surveys, feedback forms, or online platforms.
11. Compilation of comprehensive reports on Eco-club activities, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly summaries, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
12. Documentation of leader’s meetings, including agendas, meeting minutes, and evaluation criteria used to assess club performance and progress.
Terms and Conditions
1. The Contract is for 6 months and is subject to renewal
